A while ago I posted about how we were wanting to do a mini kitchen makeover to tide us over until we can actually demo the kitchen and start fresh. Kirkland’s helped me get inspired, but, since then I’ve had countless projects, and lost the steam to get started.
My biggest problem was the paint color. I had picked out (what I thought was) a pretty minty green for the walls- but then Cyle quickly ruined that by telling me that it reminded him of the glow-in-the-dark stars he had on his ceiling as a kid. So that ruined by buzz of redoing our kitchen.
Finally, I realized I just needed to get started on something, and this ugly faux brick with purpley grout was the first to go.
Not only was it ugly, but it always made our kitchen, no matter how clean, look so dirty! Also, it was SO easy to tell that the prior homeowners, while very sweet and kind people, were not pros at this and did a quick fix.
Finally, I had had it, I noticed that as of last week we had been homeowners for a year (although we didn’t move in until almost 2 months after buying the house) and we had done NOTHING to this kitchen!
Alright I’m rambling….
Anyway, I originally wanted the brick to be white, but two issues came about:
- We eat a lot of red pasta sauce, and don’t use lids on out pots and pans much
- I’m way too cheap to go out and buy more paint when our pantry was full of leftovers
So I dug through our pile of paint cans and grabbed the giant tub of paint to use. Cyle and I originally thought it was the deep grey from our living room, and we were stoked at how it would look on the wall. Well, it was the dark brown that our garage is, not a deep grey.
At that point I already had everything taped off and ready to go. And I had already Instagrammed a photo about painting the wall, so there was no stopping me at that point 😉
Plus anything would look better than what the wall looked like before.
And boy was I right. I. Love. This. Color. I’m not sure the name of the color but it is from Valsapar paint, and it was exterior paint, which I think really worked well to get absorbed nicely into the fake brick, and I only needed 2 coats and some touch ups!
Isn’t my cow head from DecorSteals.com perfect for this spot? I named her Bessie- because I’m creative. Hah. I need a little boxwood wreath for her to hang on her neck!
And because I can’t believe how much difference this paint made, here is a before and after!
Now it’s time for me to get those cabinets painted an off white and get those countertops spruced up!
