I’ll admit, I never was too fond of inspiration boards simply because I’ve always looked at them like a tease. I’ll always see these beautiful room ideas and envy that I can’t have the look or the items in the board. But lately, I’ve taken a turn for the better in regards to these. I’ve started to see them as a chance for inspiration, not envy. I’ve been able to come up with ideas for what I could create someday and it’s helped me understand and see how completely different items can match so well!
I’m thinking of creating these boards every other week- since I only have a home with 5 rooms total- and hopefully soon after you’ll get to see how helpful these boards can be!

Fabric Swatches are from Joann Fabric (of course!)
Instead of pulling items from the web that I wish I could have, I started by finding items very similar to what I already have, and using them to inspire me to recreate my home without starting from scratch.
My living room is currently in the never ending phase of “almost finished if I could just get this one more thing”. Lucky for me, I already have a similar coffee table, similar rug (gold trim instead of brown), and a flea market find blue lamp a lot like the one above. I also have a mirror much like that, but bigger and with some details. I’m thinking of picking up that Target lamp over the weekend, since I’ve been eyeing it for months, but haven’t decided yet.
My walls are very close to the tan in the background and I find that it is a great base- and excuse- to bring in LOTS of color! The 3 fabric swatches from Joann’s are my inspiration for new pillows, and I’ve invested the help of my mom to help me create some! Unfortunately, the couch is way out of my price range. Luckily, I found a bigger couch with a chaise lounge at a local furniture store, and all I have to do is convince Cyle that we need to buy it!
I love the rustic look of accents and furniture, but think they look best when paired with modern clean lines (such as the couch). I think deeper colors with a few pops of bright colors helps to create a cozy room without the room feeling dark and like a cave, or bright and crazy. What are your favorite living room looks? Any particular style you’re partial to?
Hopefully soon I’ll be able to post a finished- or “close enough to finished”- picture of my living room and not worry that it looks unfinished and too mis-matched!
P.S- Did you notice that little kitty? Hopefully this can be my excuse to get another kitten as well- I mean, the board would be incomplete without her! There is only so much “playing” my cat can do with a big bouncing black lab!

I love that pink bird fabric as an accent pillow and am jealous of your blue lamp find. We’ve had our eyes out for one for sometime now and have yet come across one. We’re holding out hope.
Thank you for sharing at the Thank Goodness It’s Thursday party, Kristina!

I’d recommend checking Etsy or Ebay for a lamp like that. Mine was only $10 at a flea market! Such a lucky find!
