Remember my post last week about homemade laundry detergent? Well I’m finally showing you guys how I made this cute little container- without any fancy die cut machine!
I was going to show a picture tutorial on how to create this, but I accidentally deleted all of the pictures from my camera. Forgive me?
But anyway, start off by buying a cute jar. I found this one at Hobby Lobby and paid about $16 for it with a coupon. Amazon has some cute ones as well that would work 1, 2, 3
You could also buy one of these jars and store your liquid laundry detergent in it.
Just make sure it has a good seal on it. Mine has a rubber lip on the inside of the lid.
I purchased Krylon metallic silver spray paint from Lowes, which was about $4, but you could also go to a craft store and buy the same can and use a coupon.
I purchased a package of reusable plastic stenciling sheets from Hobby Lobby as well, which was about $3 for multiple sheets.
To start off with, make sure you spell check the word you’re spelling out. I hate to admit this, but for some reason I spelt laundry as laundrey. Don’t ask me why! I’m still so ashamed of this!
Wash off and dry the jar very well before any tape or paint goes on- you never know how dusty that item got sitting on the store shelf.
Make sure you tape down those letters really well- I used blue painters tape that I had on hand for my jar. Also, make sure you over tape- if you think to yourself “This is enough tape”- think again and add some more! You really want to be sure that no paint gets under those letters!
I taped the entire front of the jar up and used some craft paper to cover the inside and back of the jar- you can never be to careful with spray paint!
I did about 3 light layers of paint for my letters and let it dry overnight.
Carefully take the tape off once dry. You can use a razor blade or craft knife to scrape off any mess ups or remove any extra letters- still can’t believe I never noticed that spelling error.
You can tell here that I have a bit of fuzziness in paint around my letters- that is from not taping down my letters enough! But unless you look really close, you can’t tell. I tried to get off the extra fuzziness around the letters with a blade, but ended up slipping up and scraping some paint off of my letters.
I’d also recommend applying a spray sealer so nothing scrapes the paint off when you start using it!
So there it is! You can always add more words. I was thinking of doing a collage of words like Wash Soak Rinse Soap Clean Dirty but didn’t have enough stencils for it- or patience.
