So remember when I posted my nearly navy dresser makeover and said I was kinda thinking about repainting it again to be navy? Well, I did all thanks to HomeRight!
I was so excited to bust out this sprayer, and so was Cyle! While I was taping off the hardware on the dresser he snuck behind me to play with the sprayer and set it up to paint. The couple that DIYs together stays together, right?
We used latex paint sample from the HGTV Home by Sherwin William’s line at Lowe’s (color: Blue Midnight) and diluted it with 1 cup of water to 1 cup paint (the sprayer has a viscosity cup that comes with it to help you determine if your paint even needs diluted).
I will warn you, do NOT do this on a windy day. The ideal area to use your sprayer would be in a spray shelter.
Once you have your paint properly diluted just plug in your sprayer into an extension cord, adjust the nozzle to spray either vertical, horizontal, or circular (we chose vertical) and get started!
We tested the sprayer on the side of one drawer before we got a good feel for it. We stood about 3-4 feet away from the dresser and stood upwind from the sprayer.
One thing that worried me was that the first layer turned out really spotty and I thought we’d get an uneven finish (see above picture, super spotty right?). Don’t worry about that. We simply took it as a trial and error and for our second layer stood farther back that time. If you see chunks in the paint, you should worry though and strain your paint.
We let the paint dry for about an hour, then retested the sprayer to be sure the paint didn’t dry in the sprayer, and did a second layer going the opposite directions we went the first time.
The entire dresser took two layers, with some touch ups here and there.
Another amazing thing that this sprayer can do is spray on finishing poly (and chalk paint, stain, primer, and varnish)! Since I still had some finishing wax leftover from my many chalk paint projects, I just used that.
I love the professional and clean look of this sprayer. The only brush strokes I found on the dresser were from the brush I used to paint it originally and couldn’t sand out.
After you’re sure you are done with the paint, clean out the sprayer by using the cleaning kit. It was so easy to clean this guy! We attached the clear hose to the sprayer (on the inside where the paint container was), then attach the other end (with the faucet attachment) to our hose and turned the hose on lightly. Then we pulled the trigger on the sprayer and sprayed until the water ran clear.
To clean the paint container, I just sprayed it down with water and soap and let dry.
Now isn’t that a fun tool?! I love how simple it is to use this sprayer, it did take some time to get used to it, but now I want to paint EVERYTHING in our house! Heck, I may even paint our house (kidding, sort of)! But I may need a bigger sprayer for that….
