A few weeks ago Cyle was at drill and I was dying for something to do. I had no projects laying around and was itching for a project to get my hands on. That was when I stopped by our local flea market minutes before it closed and found this beauty in all of its beat up vintage glory. For only $30.
This cabinet was yucky and grimy. Oh, it also had a cockroach in it that caused me to run and hide. Talk about vintage, huh? 😉
I had to rebuild the entire cabinet, it wasn’t put together using any wood glue or nails, but a wood peg and hole system, which was really cool, but couldn’t hold up to me carrying it around and messing with it. I just added some wood glue into the holes that the pegs went into, and put everything back together.
The bottoms of each drawer slot also weren’t fully attached either, so if the drawer under it wasn’t in place, the bottom would fall out (anyone know the purpose of that?). I had some spare 1/43 inch plywood handy and wood glued them in place to hold the pieces together.
I sanded everything down with my new handy dandy sander and was left with an almost completely bare bones surface to work with.
I had some leftover Valspar paint from when I painted my flower pots, so I decided that an adorable orange sewing cabinet would be the perfect little piece to have!
This little cabinet has some of the coolest compartments in the world! I am so glad  I ended up stopping by the flea market at the last minute.
The back half of the top opens to reveal some hidden storage options!
The first drawer isn’t actually a drawer, it is a bobbin holder!
The second drawer has a little tray for pens and writing supplies.
The bottom drawer is just a plain old drawer that I can use to store fabric scraps if needed.
And of course, instead of using this to store sewing supplies, I displayed it in my living room  so I could decorate it for fall!
