Flea Market Footstool Makeover With DecoArt Maxx Gloss Paint
Decoart graciously supplied me with some free samples of their amazing paint to use for this project. All opinions are my own on their products, for my full disclosure policy click here.
I love a good $10 find, and I love it even more when that find is made of good solid wood and just needs some touch ups. This footstool I found was one of those great finds!
I lucked out and had bought a big scrap of the chevron fabric from Joann’s months ago that looked perfect with the grey paint that DecoArt sent me!
To reupholster the top I left the current padding and fabric on the cushion, took the cushion off of the footstool and then squared the cushion on top of the fabric with enough on each side to have 3 or so inches extra when I pulled the fabric around.
To create my corners I pulled the bottom edge of fabric over and used painters tape to keep it in place. Then I took the side edge and folded it in. One it was pulled taut I held my thumb against the corner and pulled the fabric up to a 45 degree angle and taped it down.
Once everything was in place I used my finishing nail gun and nailed the fabric in place. Once that was done I just added two coats and a touch up coat of paint on the foostool, let dry, and put the cushion back on!
I didn’t even need to use a topcoat or wax to seal it. This paint resisted me testing it out by scratching at it and knocking the stool around!
Currently my new footstool is residing in my entryway, being sat on by Hermione and storing random items. Once I finally get my office more organized I’ll use it to rest my feet while I’m blogging.
And because everyone loves before and afters, here it is!
