One of the best things about where I live is the fact that my house is conveniently located a few blocks down from the local flea market! Every Saturday and Sunday morning I get up early to find some amazing treasures, and I am so stoked to show ya’ll what I did with these two chicken feeders I snagged a few weeks ago!
I got a steal with these nice feeders, only $20 total! I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do with them when I saw them, turn them into a garden! As seen by my recent succulent garden, ya’ll know I love to plant things in odd containers, and these guys didn’t stand a chance.
I made a trip to Lowe’s and grabbed a few bags of pottings soil and some herbs for the small planter. I picked dill, basil, thyme, and oregano. I filled the soil to the top of the planter and added the plants in and cleaned up the mess from spillage.
FYI- The EAT sign in the back was a recent DIY as well!
I love having this planter on my kitchen table, I now have fresh herbs at my hands!
The big planter got taken outside and turned into a succulent and cactus planter! Our front door had nothing by it except a small flag, and this really added some color up front! I used cacti and succulent planter soil and also mixed in some rocks for extra drainage.
I do want to run to the store and get another little cactus to fill in the back more, but for now, I’ll enjoy the view 😉
All I can think about now is finding more chicken feeders so I can have a little arrangement of them up front!
What do you think? Do you need some chicken feeders now, too?
Also, any idea what I should do with the leftover lids? I was thinking they could make some cool vintage lights on a vaulted ceiling!

I have 2 of these feeders. I never thought they worked well for feeding my girls, so I should do something with them instead of sitting in my garage. You gave me a great idea.. The herbs look so natural growing in that type of ‘pot’.

Hi, Kristina ~ I’m visiting from the Merry Monday Link Party. I’m SO jealous that you live close to a flea market! And I’ve been keeping an eye out for a couple of chicken feeders. :0) I love how you made them into gardens. There’s just something about galvanized metal and green, growing things, isn’t there?! Thanks for sharing. I hope you enjoy your gardens for many years to come!

Galvanized metal is the bees knees! I love anything with galvanized metal on it!
I hope these gardens last, I kind of have a black thumb!

Cute ideas! I just spent our weekend planting some cacti, veggies and other plants and did as much as I could with thrifted items for the planters. The light idea sounds like a lot of fun, too!

Just a heads up…those are chicken waterers. Feeders have a lid that hangs above so they can’t roost on them.

Oh, I didn’t know that, Brandi! Thanks for sharing!
