I’ve been a kick lately here on the blog- a Dollar Store kick! I’ve posted a Christmas decorating guide and a $1 stocking holder hack. I’ll be honest, the Dollar Store can get expensive. I usually leave with about 3 or 4 bags full of stuff when I leave, but I rarely feel guilty because I know that I got a lot for a great price. Today I want to share a quick gift guide for almost everyone on your list this year. The Dollar Store is great for gift giving for all occasions, and is especially handy for those who you may have forgotten and need a last minute gift for- not that this has ever happened to me before….
Let’s begin!
Gifts For The Baker
Last year I gifted some very full and very nice gift baskets for a few folks who I know love to cook. I will say that the red Betty Crocker measuring cups do lose their measurements written on them after a few washes, so I’d recommend grabbing their metal cups and spoons for the same price. You can create a great basket that includes very nice Pyrex (not all Dollar Stores do carry these) and Betty Crocker baking sheets and pans. The glass dishes range from $3-$6, which is still very affordable.
If you are giving the gift of baking, be sure to stop by their food section and grab some mixes for them to bake!
Gifts To Keep You Warm
My favorite section of the Dollar store is the slipper socks section- I made a special trip to the Dollar Store the other day just to buy a bunch of these socks- and I may or may not be wearing these while I type. 😉
Every year I ask for these socks, and although I hated getting socks as a kick- I don’t know a single lady I’ve given these to that wasn’t excited. They’re soooo warm! While you’re grabbing something to keep their feet warm, be sure to grab some cute scarves (there was a whole other rack of cuter scarves at my store) and some mittens and hats! You could always throw in some hot chocolate packets and a coffee mug to create a “Keep Warm This Winter” theme. Which brings me to another great section…
Gifts To Drink With
I love the adorable To-Go cups and mugs that so many stores sell, and I was excited to see the Dollar Store selling these! I almost snatched up the wine To-Go cup, but didn’t have the extra $3- that is right, it was only $3! They also have a great assortments of drink ware. I love their champagne and wine glasses, great to use for last minute get-togethers, and only $1 a pop! I picked up some of the clear mugs from the store and love using them!
To accompany these items, grab some hot cocoa packets- or better yet, make some homemade!- and other assorted drinks.
You could also grab a nice bottle of wine from another store to gift with the wine glasses.
If you don’t want to gift plain looking glasses, run to the craft store and buy some etching cream or glass paint and customize! I did this another year and made His and Hers wine glasses and the couple loved them!
Gifts For Kids
Ok, now onto the expensive gifts- kids toys. Why are they so expensive? When I was a kid I had the attention span of a gnat and would love my new toy for a month and then move onto the next. This is a huge reason why I run to the Dollar Store for gifts for kids before hitting up Toys R Us. I always check for quality though, you don’t want it to be really obvious that you went cheap and to the Dollar Store. I really love the baby toy section (that was cleaned out quite well when I got there). When I needed to make a baby shower gift basket, I hit up the Dollar store and grabbed a few nice toys for the baby from the Dollar store.
The Dollar Store even has affordable Frozen gifts, how awesome is that? There was also a huge assortment of toy cars, which were a lot cheaper than even Walmart!
I also like to grab the coloring books for $1 to help keep the nieces and nephews occupied while the adults relax and do other things.
My Favorite Gift- Candles!
My favorite Dollar Store in town recently did a nice overhaul on their candle section- they now sell awesome Scentsy (off brand) wax cubes and warmers! Score!
I really love the assortment of soy candles and their holiday scents. Candles are so expensive but you can pick up a nice one at the Dollar Store for $5, which means if you are gifting one, you can buy one for yourself!
Because of how affordable the candles are at the Dollar Store, you could always make a bigger basket of candles or wax cubes and a warmer and not break the bank.Just don’t forget a lighter so they can light the candles!
So are you grabbing your keys and heading to the Dollar Store yet? I know I will be again soon for a few gifts, how about you? Let me know in the comments what your favorite part of the Dollar Store is!

Some of my favourite toys as a child were the ones where I had to be creative. Lego blocks. Wooden blocks. A book. A paint or art set. Holiday presents don’t necessarily have to be so expensive for kids. Though I’m getting to the age where my friends are having kids and I’m looking for toys that are inexpensive and educational. Such a tiny market!

It is so hard to find inexpensive gifts for kids, you’re right! Especially ones that they will use a lot and learn from. I loved legos as a lid, and you could always catch me reading a book on the playground.
Thanks for stopping by!
