Delightfully Wicked Halloween Hop + A BlocksPaperPaint Giveaway!

I was so excited when Jennifer at Delightfully Noted  invited me to participate in this Halloween themed blog hop! If you missed it, I started decorating for the holidays early this year. I’ve decorated my front porch, just shared my sparkly jack o’lantern, and now I want to show ya’ll how I made my wood letter banner that I showed off in my front porch tour.

The supplies you need are pretty basic, wood letters, ribbon, hot glue, paint, and glitter.

I purchased these wood letters at Michaels for about $5, but if you sneak over to Joann Fabrics they have bigger ones (I was originally going to purchase the 12″ ones, but they were out of B’s) and let you use a bunch more coupons than Michaels does! ;)

The wood letters usually come in 3 colors; white, natural, and black. Michaels only had the white in stock, so I used some black paint to change the color.

After you finish painting them your desired color, use some Krylon spray glitter to glitterfy the letters- this step is required, so don’t even think about skipping out on the glitter ;). If you want the piece to be completely glitterlicous, I’d suggest using spray adhesive and loose glitter, just be careful and don’t do this in your house, you’ll never see the end of the glitter- in fact, wear a Hazmat suit just to be safe ;)

I tried coming up with a few ways to tie the ribbon, I originally wanted to run one big piece in and out of the holes in the letters, but it ended up looking bad, so I cut off a few inches of ribbon and tied each letter together with a double knot and some hot glue to hold the knot in place.

On the top ribbon that I used to hang the banner, I tied a loop for hanging by doing a double knot and then tying a second knot about 1 inch above that one to create a circle. Then I glued it down behind the piece of ribbon so it didn’t show when hanging. Make sense? (Probably not, I’m terrible at explaining simple things)

And there you have it! :) I originally was going to hang this on our door, but the letters were to thick and heavy and I didn’t want to make even more noise fighting to close our broken door everyday! ;P

I really should clean my siding, it looks a bit dingy and dirty. ;P
