Organizing is not my forte. I’m more of a shove it to the back of the closet and hope for the best kinda gal, but I 100% feel like Jane, the author of Organizing For Your Lifestyle gets people like me and was able to effectively show me how to organize and purge my house.
On page two, Jane tells the adorable story of how she used to organize her cats by size when she was a kid. First off, super jealous that she had enough cats growing up to organize, Second, I stopped reading to sit and imagine a small herd of cats being man-handled by a six year-old telling them to stay still. Now THAT is an adorable image.
Jane doesn’t just give tips on how to organize your home; she starts off with sharing studies that have proven how organized items and less clutter make for a better life. This is something that makes 100% sense and I know, but is also something that I’ve had trouble keeping a grasp on. I’m the type of person that starts to declutter and then once I hit a certain wall I stop and move onto something else and say “well, I’ve decluttered enough!” And then the process and agony continue on for months and months.
Jane also dives into your individual personality before dosing out her organization advice. This helps set the tone for how I took her words and interpreted them into my own life. Normally organization books just go into the job of telling you how to organize your stuff, but she took the time to sit down and adapt and discuss your own style!
After all, Jane says, you can’t stay organized if it doesn’t fit your lifestyle!
The book takes your through many rooms in your home that may need help- the closet, bathroom, kitchen, bookshelves, etc- and you actually see easy to understand instructions/photos on folding a fitted sheet (and not how to wad them into a ball like some of us do).
But spoiler, I’m still not gonna fold mine because I’m just way too lazy for that, but now I at least know how to do it! 😉
Overall, if you were into The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up book then you’ll love this even more (mostly because she doesn’t make you tell your socks you love them before putting them back in their drawer 😉 ).
