So many people think that essential oils are for kids and women only, but men can- and do!- use essential oils constantly and just as much as women! Essential oils for cleaning, hair care, skin care, diet, and emotional health are just a few ways that essential oils work for any guy.
Unfortunately, a lot of men don’t care about going chemical free or all-natural as much as women do- so sometimes we have to push them a bit to realize how important it is to know the ingredients in products and foods. I’m still working on getting Cyle to come over fully to the oily side! What can I say, men can be stubborn. 😉
Buying gifts for women is easy, if you don’t know what we want chances are we have dropped about 80 hints (some not so subtle) or would love a trip to the spa for a massage and some peace and quiet (hey Cyle, here is a not so subtle hint! 😉 ). But when it comes to buying gifts for men, it is a LOT harder because almost all of the men in my life have everything they need- or don’t have many hobbies to choose a gift for.
But one thing all men have in common is facial hair, or the desire to not have any. This gift is perfect for every man! Making homemade shaving cream (that is exfoliating!) not only benefits the man in your life- but you can also steal some of it and use it for yourself (trust me, it is great!).
And the beard oil? Don’t even get me started on the stink that beards get- yuck. These gifts would be PERFECT to give with a gift card for a shave club, or a really nice beard trimmer.
- 2 TBSP Carrier Oil Jojoba Oil, Almond oil, or Young Living V6 Oil
- 15-20 drops of Essential Oils– I only trust these oils for my family (try different combos of these: Cedarwood, Tea Tree, Lavender, Blue Spruce, Valor, Frankincense, Cinnamon, Pine, Clove, Tangerine, or any other manly scent!)
Combine the carrier oil and the drops of your chose essential oils into a dropper bottle and shake. Depending on the size of your beard use ½ to 1 dropper full of oil on your clean beard for added emotional benefits (like Valor or calming oils such as Lavender and Cedarwood) and hair growth and softness benefits, and of course, scent!
I did 10 drops of Pine and Cedarwood, 7 drops of Idaho Blue Spruce, and 3 of Cinnamon Bark.
Homemade Shaving Cream
- 1 C Shea Butter
- 1 C Coconut Oil
- 1/2 C Jojoba Oil, or Young Living V6 oil
- 30-40 drops of essential oils (Beneficial to skin and smell GREAT: Sandalwood, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Lavender)
- 4 tsp baking soda
- Glass dropper bottles
(Makes a medium sized batch)
Using a double boiler method, melt the shea butter and coconut oil. While still warm add the olive oil (or other carrier oil) and essential oils.
Add in the baking soda and combine well. The baking soda is the exfoliator, so depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you could reduce or exclude this.
Note: This doesn’t stay puffy and creamy like store bought shave cream- it turns into more of a gel- which I actually prefer!
